Amaterasu is a Japanese sun goddess - which is why I thought it was strange that Ama would name himself after a god of a 'heathen' religion (shinto).

There is a story behind that

I didn't find out what it meant until like months later so at that point I just kept it.

The reason being I had just watched Itachi's encounter with Jiraiya and Sasuke and Naruto, before he learns Rasengan and then I found this site for the second time (the first account being Ron jon or something like that, buit I forgot what my username was the second time here) so I clicked the sign up adn counldn't think of a username (happens a lot) and amaterasu was on my mind because it had cool spelling.

That is really the only reason
